Avengers 5: Thor 4 leaks tease future of Chris Hemsworth in the MCU

After the events of Avengers: Endgame, both Iron Man and Captain America exited the franchise leaving a vacuum of power that needs to be filled. Since then, Disney Plus series have been bridging the gap between films, showcasing new character such as Loki’s Sylvie, What If’s Captain Carter and Hawkeye’s Kate Bishop. All of them could become a member of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, but it seems as though Thor: Love and Thunder will be giving audiences a new team member. A new leak suggests Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster will be becoming The Mighty Thor. And not just for one movie.

Following the game-changing success of Taika Waititi’s Thor: Ragnarok, in which the studio ramped up Hemsworth’s funny side, the director is back at the helm for part four. He has already called it “the craziest film” he’s ever done, adding that “it shouldn’t make sense.”

Little is known about the specific plot of the film, only that it will see the return of Jane Foster all while Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie will be looking for her queen to oversee New Asgard.

It has been known for a while that Jane will wield a new Mjolnir in the film, becoming The Mighty Thor, based on the comic of the same name. In the original story, she suffers from cancer, and Thor gifts her his powers in order to keep her alive. She reluctantly accepts them, making a dark and unusual story for the characters.

But, with Waititi in the director’s chair, expect the comedy to be dialled right up.

A new leak from some prominent Marvel scoopers has now suggested that Jane’s time with the hammer won’t be brief. In fact, it will only just be the beginning, essentially ushering her in as the new Thor for a future Avengers team-up.

Not only this, but she will be getting her own solo film.

The Twitter account @MyTimeToShineHello wrote: “Jane’s Thor could get her own project.” Then, @TheComixKid retweeted the post, adding: “I’ve heard it’s more than ‘could’ and closer to ‘will’.”

A Mighty Thor film may not be a total surprise for some fans, as Marvel is already continuing some of their classic franchises with other heroes taking the mantle. Captain America is an obvious one, with Disney confirming Captain America 4 is in development with Anthony Mackie’s Falcon in the lead following the release of Falcon and the Winter Soldier.

Iron Man is also living on through two different projects. The first is Iron Heart, which will follow Riri Williams creating a new suit of armour based on Tony Stark’s designs. The second is Armour Wars, which will see the return of Don Cheadle’s War Machine.

The leaks should be taken with a grain of salt, as Marvel has not confirmed anything about the future of Thor, Jane Foster or the Avengers beyond their already announced projects. However, it does potentially give audiences a clue on where the MCU is heading.

No Avengers films have been officially announced, with some reports suggesting a Young Avengers is in development. It could see Kate Bishop’s Hawkeye, Peter Parker’s Spider-Man, Kid Loki, Doctor Strange 2’s America Chavez and Ms Marvel’s Kamala Khan all come together.

Elsewhere, an all-female Avengers could also be on the horizon. Back in 2019, Captain Marvel star Brie Larson hinted at the possibility of the film, saying: “I will say that a lot of the female cast members from Marvel walked up to Kevin and we were like, ‘We are in this together, we want to do this.’ What that means, I have no idea. You know, I’m not in charge of the future of Marvel, but it is something that we’re really passionate about and we love and I feel like if enough people out in the world talk about how much they want it, maybe it’ll happen.” (via Variety)

Jane Foster’s Mighty Thor would be a logical addition to that team, but anything could happen at the moment. Just because she is becoming a new Thor doesn’t mean Hemsworth’s can’t exist simultaneously.

Fans are okay with more than one actor portraying a similar superhero. Despite being slightly different, audiences have loved Spider-Man: No Way Home with three Spideys for the price of one. The same is true over in DC, with the upcoming The Flash having not one, but two Batmen (Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck) share the screen. This is in the same year that The Batman is coming out with Robert Pattinson taking over the role.

Now that No Way Home has just crossed $1.7 billion at the global box office, clearly, fans are still hungry for some superheroes. If Thor 4 is a success, expect to see multiple Gods of Thunder grace the screen.
