Brian Daboll to keep Patrick Graham as Giants DC if he doesn’t get Vikings job

The all-new Giants will not be all new.

New head coach Brian Daboll has made his first major decision, and it will be a popular one in the locker room he now controls. Daboll is planning on bringing back Patrick Graham as the Giants’ defensive coordinator, he said during a press conference Monday, proving that he is not going to wipe away every remnant of the Joe Judge coaching regime.

The only caveat: Graham has interviewed for the Vikings head coach position. If he gets that, he obviously will be headed to Minnesota. If he does not get hired for that job, he will return to the Giants.

Daboll, in fact, is inclined to retain several defensive assistant coaches from Judge’s staff.

Graham, 43, was a key hire for Judge two years ago. His defense in 2020 finished No. 9 in the NFL in scoring defense, allowing 22.3 points a game. In 2021, Graham’s defense was No. 23 in scoring defense at 24.5 points a game.
