Conte has already bemoaned the club’s difficulties this transfer window, but he would have likely been furious that the club missed out on the likes of Diaz and Traore.
Diaz snubbed a move to Tottenham and instead joined Liverpool for an initial £37.5m, while Traore was lured back to his former club Barcelona, whom he joined on loan until the end of the season.
“I know that the transfer window in January is always very difficult and it is more simple when you start the season to buy important players,” Conte bemoaned the day before Tottenham’s 3-2 away victory against Leicester City.
“In January it is not easy, but at the same time we know very well that if there is the opportunity and also if it’s not the best opportunity, but we need to do something.
“Also if I repeat that this could not be the best opportunity but I think that we are in a situation where we have to try to implement into the squad because the squad is not so big.”
