Everton 'appoint Frank Lampard' as their new manager on two-and-a-half year deal

Everton have confirmed Frank Lampard as their new manager according to Sky Sports. The former Chelsea boss will take over from Rafael Benitez, and has allegedly signed a two-and-a-half year deal at Goodison Park.

It is also being reported that ex-Derby and Swansea boss Paul Clement will be Lampard’s assistant.

The Toffees have been on the lookout for a new man in the hotseat ever since firing Benitez earlier this month.

The likes of Victor Pereira and and Duncan Ferguson were also considered for the permanent position.

But in the end it seems that Lampard has got the nod.

Lampard started his managerial career at Derby, where he led them to the Championship playoff final in 2019 before they were cruelly beaten by Aston Villa at Wembley.

That summer Lampard went back to his old team to become manager at Chelsea.

And he enjoyed a relatively successful first season, guiding the Blues to fourth place in the Premier League and reaching the FA Cup final.

However, after a disappointing start to the 2020-21 campaign he was sacked, and has been out of a job ever since.

Lampard has previously been linked with the likes of Norwich and Aston Villa, but it is Everton where he has ended up.

And he has a mighty task on his hands, with the Merseysiders in desperate need of an upturn in form as soon as possible.

They are currently 16th in the league following a woeful campaign so far, and sit just four points off relegation.

They have strengthened in January, however, bringing in full-backs Vitaliy Mykolenko and Nathan Patterson.

And they are also expected to confirm a loan for the rest of the season for Manchester United’s Donny van de Beek.
