What the hottest stars of the ‘80s and ‘90s look like now

Bridget Fonda hit headlines on Wednesday after she was photographed out in public for the first time in more than a decade.

The 58-year-old former actress — who quit Hollywood in 2002 and hasn’t walked a red carpet since 2010 — looked unrecognizable as she ran errands in Los Angeles.

Once revered as one of the most glamorous women of the 1990s, Fonda opted to keep things casual during her recent outing, donning comfortable clothes and going makeup-free.

Her laidback look sparked a stir online, with many contrasting her current appearance with her sizzling screen role in 1992’s “Single White Female.”

But Fonda has proven that even the most glamorous stars change over the years, and she joins a growing number of former pinups who are defiantly owning their age and prioritizing personal comfort over public expectations.

Other ’80s and ’90s heartthrobs, however, have taken a different route — sparking speculation they’ve received cosmetic enhancements in a bid to fend off the aging process.

Here, the hottest stars of yesteryear and how they look now.

Brendan Fraser

Brendan Fraser was one of Hollywood’s hunkiest actors during the 1990s, showing off his chiseled chest in “George of the Jungle” (1997) and winning legions of female fans in “The Mummy” (1999).

Last year, however, admirers claimed Fraser — now 53 — looked unrecognizable when he appeared on the red carpet with thinning locks and a larger frame.

But Fraser isn’t letting middle age hold him back in Hollywood, with a slew of new movies on the horizon, including a role in the upcoming Warner Bros. “Batgirl” flick.

Kelly McGillis

Kelly McGillis set pulses racing opposite Tom Cruise in the 1986 action movie “Top Gun,” but the now-64-year-old won’t be reprising her role as contractor Charlie Blackwood in the forthcoming sequel.

Back in 2019, the actress told Entertainment Tonight she was never contacted about the upcoming installment — chalking the snub up to her looks.

“They did not and nor do I think they would ever. I mean, I’m old and I’m fat and I look age appropriate for what my age is,” McGillis stated.

“I’d much rather feel absolutely secure in my skin and who and what I am at my age as opposed to placing a value on all that other stuff,” she added.

Matt LeBlanc

Widely credited as being the sexiest male star in the “Friends” ensemble, Matt LeBlanc, 54, has avoided the vanity that plagued his sitcom character Joey.

The actor let his hair go gray in his 40s and has no problems rocking a dad bod. The funnyman’s confidence in his own skin means he still manages to make women swoon, despite Twitter detractors claiming he looked “old” in the recent “Friends” reunion.

Matthew Perry

Like his “Friends” co-star, Matthew Perry, 52, appears comfortable in his own skin.

While some male stars in their 50s — including Mark Wahlberg — spend hours maintaining their ripped physiques, Perry is no gym junkie. The star also doesn’t feel the need to get dressed up for the paparazzi, frequently seen sporting sweatpants and disheveled bed hair while out in public.

Kathleen Turner

Kathleen Turner shot to fame after starring in the erotic thriller “Body Heat” back in 1981. She spent the decade as a pinup, making many memorable red carpet appearances sporting sexy makeup and glamorous gowns

But the 67-year-old stunner hasn’t been afraid to embrace the aging process and doesn’t mind being pictured in public with her gray hair.

“You have to get to that place as a woman where you know your worth isn’t dependent on [looks],” she told Closer back in 2013 ahead of her 60th birthday. “I don’t look like I did 30 years ago. Get over it!”

Lara Flynn Boyle

Lara Flynn Boyle was a fixture in the tabloids from the late 1980s all the way through the early 2000s. The “Twin Peaks” starlet graced the cover of Rolling Stone and even embarked on a high-profile romance with Jack Nicholson.

The brunette beauty, 51, is now rarely spotted out in public, but she sparked speculation she had indulged in some cosmetic procedures during a rare red carpet appearance in 2017.

In an interview with the Hollywood Reporter last year, Boyle — who revealed she doesn’t have a computer or a smartphone and doesn’t know how to use Google — claimed she doesn’t pay attention to what is written about her in the media.

She also dismissed reports she was staging a comeback with her unusual new look, declaring, “I never went anywhere!”

Mickey Rourke

After the raunchy “9½ Weeks” steamed up screens in the mid-1980s, mischievous Mickey Rourke became a bona fide heartthrob.

Revered for his boyish good looks, Rourke was also a boxer who boasted a fit physique.

But the star, now 69, was forced to go under the knife to fix facial injuries sustained in the ring and admits he was unimpressed with the results.

Mickey Rourke became a sex symbol in the 1980s, but admitted to having botched facial surgeries in the 2000s. He is pictured left in 1980, and right in 2021.

“Most of it [surgery] was to mend the mess of my face because of the boxing, but I went to the wrong guy to put my face back together,” he told MailOnline.

“I had my nose broken twice. I had five operations on my nose and one on a smashed cheekbone.”

Tom Cruise

Rourke isn’t the only ’80s male pinup to spark chatter with a puffy face.

Tom Cruise prompted speculation that he had treated himself to facial fillers when he was pictured out at a baseball game in October last year.

Fans of the “Risky Business” megastar took to Twitter to ask why the 59-year-old looked so unrecognizable.

@TomCruise What have you done to your gorgeous face?!!!! I was soooo disappointed when I saw you in the stands at the Dodgers game! STOP putting crap into your face please!!!!” one fan begged.

Meg Ryan

With her perky demeanor and picture-perfect looks, Meg Ryan was America’s reigning romcom queen throughout the 1980s and ’90s.

But the “When Harry Met Sally…” star shocked fans when she stepped out sporting a “trout pout” back in 2011.

These days, reclusive Ryan is rarely seen in public, but she appears to have eased up on any injectables, looking far more natural in the rare photos that are captured of her.

The star celebrated her 60th birthday two months ago and seems content with both her life and looks as she heads into a new decade.

Johnny Depp

If time hasn’t done a number on the once-baby-faced Johnny Depp, scandal sure has.

The grungy heartthrob of the ’90s plastered the walls of teenage boys and girls around the world after appearing in “21 Jump Street” and “Cry-Baby.” With “Edward Scissorhands” and other cool dude indie films, he further cemented his type as an edgy hunk, with a string of romances to match it. He was engaged to Sherilyn Fenn, Jennifer Grey, and Winona Ryder and dated model Kate Moss before settling down with Vanessa Paradis and eventually marrying Amber Heard.

However, things turned radioactive as Depp fell deeper into an alleged alcohol and substance abuse problem, with a nasty domestic violence court battle with ex-wife Heard in 2021. Recently, he lost a libel case against the Sun over a 2018 article that described him as a “wife-beater.” Scoring a movie role since then has been … challenging.

Depp was seen more often outside courthouses than in movies, looking increasingly disheveled and, let’s face it, a living embodiment of a rough few years.

Alec Baldwin

Baldwin went from appearing impossibly tan, shirtless and babe-tastic in 1990’s “Miami Blues” to bedraggled by a string of controversies, most recently over a shooting on the set of the low-budget film “Rust.”

Baldwin, the leader of fellow hot Baldwin bros, was once the leading man in romantic films such as “The Marrying Man” in 1991 and “Prelude to a Kiss” in 1992. He even took on a silver fox aesthetic in “It’s Complicated” and showed off his comedy chops on “SNL” and “30 Rock.”

The 63-year-old actor most recently appeared exhausted and scruffy as he surrendered his phone, which is believed to contain information about the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins in October, to the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office.

John Travolta

The 67-year-old perpetuated the stereotype of the cool guy on film in the 1970s with his films such as “Saturday Night Fever” and “Grease.” His career stayed hot and heavy in the ‘80s and ‘90s with hit films such as “Staying Alive,” “Pulp Fiction” and “Look Who’s Talking.”

In 2020, he shocked fans with a new look on social media that featured him with a bald head and short scruffy gray beard, akin to singer Pitbull’s signature look.

Heather Locklear

The soap opera queen, 60, was fresh-faced when she stepped onto the scene in 1981 with the drama “Dynasty.” Locklear then became a household name starring in the glitzy Fox soap “Melrose Place” well into the ‘90s.

While she has kept a fairly low profile in recent years, the “Spin City” alum popped back up on viewers’ radars with a changed look for the Lifetime flick “Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff” in 2021. The comeback role showed Locklear with an unrecognizable face and a new paycheck. She was last seen in the Tyler Perry series “Too Close to Home,” from 2016 to 2017 on TLC.

Oprah Winfrey

Winfrey has made much of her fortune talking about her weight loss transformations over the decades. In 1988, she famously shed 67 pounds and wheeled a wagon full of actual fat on the stage of her eponymous talk show.

By 2015, she kept up a healthy lifestyle and became an ambassador for Weight Watchers that year. “Weight Watchers has given me the tools to begin to make the lasting shift that I and so many of us who are struggling with weight have longed for,” she stated. “I believe in the program so much I decided to invest in the company and partner in its evolution.”
