Drivers can de-ice their car windscreen in '30 seconds' using water and one household item

Motorists are simply filling a sandwich bag with a mixture of cold and hot water before running over their windscreen. A clip of someone explaining the simple trick has gone viral on social media site TikTok with over 23,000 likes.

During the video, user ‘washy_wash’ explains how to get the water to a perfect temperature for de-icing their vehicles in “less than 30 seconds”.

They said: “I am using Ikea freezer bag filled with 1/3 cold water and 2/3 boiled water.”

Washy_wash added: “Water isn’t hot and it’ll stay in bag.”

She is then seen running the bag over her windscreen, melting the ice cover instantly.

They added: “We all have access to hot water, and we all have an old ziplock bag or freezer bag lying around somewhere.

“Simply put those two things together and your car windscreen will be [frost] free in no time.”

However, the AA has warned drivers to not fall for online hack videos.

They said: “There’s a lot of videos out there claiming to have genius ways to defrost your car.

“But most of the methods don’t work or could even cause you extra problems.

“The internet was in meltdown when a driver shared his ‘hack’ of putting hot water in a sandwich bag to defrost his windscreen.

“But when asked our Members, only two percent of them said they’d tried it.

“It’s just as well, because the melted water could refreeze and cause your windscreen wipers or even door handles to stick.”
