Dana White SNUBS Francis Ngannou by refusing to wrap his belt around his waist after UFC 270 win over Ciryl Gane and then fails to show up for post-fight press conference amid contract row with heavyweight champion

  • Dana White didn’t enter the Octagon to wrap belt around Francis Ngannou
  • The UFC president, White, also refused to attend the PPV press conference
  • Ngannou took Ciryl Gane down in huge turn up for the books and took points win
  • The heavyweight champion is understood to have one fight left on his contract

Dana White didn’t enter the Octagon to wrap the UFC Heavyweight Championship Belt around Francis Ngannou’s waist and then refused to attend the PPV press conference.

The Cameroonian retained his UFC heavyweight title with a win over Ciryl Gane at the Honda Centre, in Anaheim last night.

Ngannou is understood to have one fight left on his contract due to a clause that extends the deal by winning a championship bout, putting both him and the UFC in an awkward position having made his intention to box Tyson Fury or another heavyweight star in a lucrative cross-over bout.

It will be fascinating to see whether the organisation come to an agreement with the champion or decide to strip him of the title in punishment.

UFC president Dana White reveals that he was not worried about the stalemate in contract talks prior to the fight.

White told TMZ:  ‘I’ve been in contract drama for 20 years with people. It’s part of the business. I honestly don’t know where we’ll end up after Saturday.

‘We’ll see how the fight goes, we’ll see what happens and I’m sure we’ll figure it out one way or another.

‘Francis and I have had our moments over the last several years. I bumped into him at dinner a few weeks ago and we had a good conversation.

‘It was funny because we needed to talk. We needed to see each other and the universe made it happen.

‘We’ll see how these things play out. I don’t blame Francis as much as I blame the not so very smart people that surround him.’

Ngannou evolved from a KO king to a grappling God with a completely unexpected performance against Ciryl Gane at UFC 270 to retain his heavyweight title despite battling on with a torn knee.

After dropping the first two rounds with his gas tank seemingly running low, the champion produced a massive body slam takedown that must have registered on the Richter scale in California as his French opponent clattered into the mat.

It was the moment of the fight and signalled a crucial change in momentum with the Cameroon native repeating the trick in the championship rounds.

With the scores level at two rounds apiece heading into the fifth, both men knew the importance of the next five minutes.
