Saturday Kitchen fans call for host to return as Angela Hartnett steps in: ‘Not the same'

Over the weekend, Saturday Kitchen had a presenter mix-up, swapping host Matt Tebbutt with Chef-Patron Angela Hartnett. Taking over the kitchen was chef Anna Haugh, who prepared a mouth-watering fish cake and Ravneet Gill, who made a smooth apple tart along with milk ice cream, much to the delight of comedian Rob Brydon, who was a guest on the show. Viewers at home paid tribute to Matt after the reason behind his absence was revealed during the BBC programme.

Angela explained: “Matt, I know is incredibly disappointed not to be here today because he was really looking forward to actually chatting to you [Rob] and I know he’s a massive fan of your show’s.

“But for those of you who have not seen it on social media, Matt had to have his appendix out.

“He is looking well, he’s amazing, but we will not show you any pictures of him in hospital.”

She added: “But we love you, Matt and get well soon from all of us and the team here.”

According to the NHS website: “Appendicitis is a painful swelling of the appendix.

“Within hours, pain travels to the lower right-hand side, where the appendix usually lies, and becomes constant and severe.”

Fans flooded to social media to share their thoughts on new replacement Angela and also reached out to Matt.

@delphinadolphin chirped: “Yes! It’s Angela! @AngelaHartnett I’m glad you were able to step in. Get well soon Matt!

@markbalmforth said: “What’s happened to @matt_tebbutt today? Looking forward to @AngelaHartnett hosting the show @SaturdayKitchen.”

@JoeMackenzie16 simply put: “Awww #SaturdayKitchen Love Angela.”

@charliecomms1 commented: “Delighted to see Angela Hartnett on #SaturdayKitchen. I think she’s phenomenal.”

Although most viewers were happy about the new temporary host, one fan believed the show should have been taken off air for the day.

@gaRAge1992 quipped: “Getting in a replacement to host Saturday kitchen live ffs, this isn’t the sugababes, cancel the whole thing and stay in bed.”

@gla55m gushed: “#SaturdayKitchen Getwell soon Matt my saturday will not be the same without your cherpy banter with the chefs and guests. Hope the food in hopital is good for you @BBCNews.”

Matt, who has hosted the BBC One show since 2016, took to social media on Wednesday to share details of his hospital visit.

The 48-year-old foodie shared a picture from his hospital bed, the photo also showed the TV star linked to a morphine drip on his Instagram page.
