  • Arsenal icon is reportedly at the top of a list of managerial targets for Bordeaux
  • The Ligue 1 club are currently 19th and Petkovic could be gone if they lose again
  • Reports in France claim Henry is in ‘regular contact’ and weighing up a move

Thierry Henry is reportedly being handed a route back into management after Bordeaux approached him about becoming their next manager.

The French club are in freefall and are at risk of being relegated after four straight defeats, which included a 6-0 hammering at the hands of Rennes last time out, leaving Vladimir Petkovic on the brink of being sacked.

According to French news outlet RMC Sport, Henry has been in ‘regular contact’ with the Ligue 1 side, with the club’s president Gerard Lopez making the Arsenal legend his No 1 managerial target if Petkovic is shown the door.

The report goes on to suggest that Petkovic will need to beat Strasbourg at the weekend if he is to have any hope of keeping his job.

It remains to be seen whether Henry, who currently works as an assistant coach for Belgium, would take the step back into management with the Qatar World Cup taking place at the end of the year.

A relegation scrap may discourage the Frenchman but constant talks with the Ligue 1 side may help in persuading him.

It wouldn’t be the first time Henry had found himself in the middle of a relegation battle in Ligue 1.

After taking the job as Monaco manager back in October 2018, the wheels fell off shortly after which saw him win just four of his 20 games in charge, before he was sacked 15 months later.

He left Monaco in the relegation places but picked himself up and enjoyed a better tenure in the MLS with Montreal Impact.

Henry returned to the Belgium setup for Euro 2020 and continues to work as a pundit alongside his assistant coach role.
