Emma Raducanu opens up on 'adversity' she conquered in Sloane Stephens win

“I just want to thank everyone for coming out and staying so late, I really appreciate it,” Raducanu said in her on-court interview, as the clock struck midnight in Melbourne

“Both me and Sloane really put everything out there and it was a very high-quality match. I’m very happy to come through against such a great champion.”

The world No 18 was happy with her level in the first set, but admitted it was tough to get past the former Grand Slam champion in the longer rallies.

She continued: “It was a tough match-up for a first round, I knew there was going to be some very long rallies and I was having to work extremely hard for my points.
