Virginia, Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina all responded to the turbulent weather conditions by issuing state of emergencies. Republican Governor Henry McMaster, 74, even called on fellow South Carolinians to steer clear of the state’s roads.
He said: “This is going to be a pretty bad storm in the upper part of the state.”
McMaster added it was “good news” the storm was forecast to hit on a weekend and public holiday.
Georgia’s GOP Governor Brian Kemp, 58, also suggested there was a degree of uncertainty to the weather conditions.
“Hopefully, the storm will underdeliver but it could overdeliver,” he said.

“We just don’t know.”
The US National Weather Service (NWS) forecasts more than 1ft of snow could fall in some areas.
They also warn snow and ice could result in “dangerous travel, power outages, and tree damage”.
But conditions have also forced more than 3,000 flights in and out of the US to be cancelled.

In Ontario, Canada’s most heavily-populated province and an area which borders New York state, officials put out a warning on Sunday morning.
The BBC reports the province’s capital, Toronto, could even see as much as seven inches of snow.
