According to a May 2015 report in the Chicago Tribune, Arlis had made a living working as an architectural engineer for Lend Lease, a construction and development company that had put up a number of prominent Chicago structures.

Following his time at Batavia High School, he attended the University of Illinois, where he received both his master’s and undergraduate degrees, as well as competing as an amateur wrester.

During his time on The Bachelorette, Arlis and fellow contestant JJ Lane were portrayed as villains, which he subsequently said was ‘tongue [in] cheek’ in a Men Tell All segment; Arlis was eliminated from the show in the third week.

Bristowe eventually selected Shawn Booth, but the couple split up in 2018. She announced her engagement to Jason Tartick last May.

Bachelor Nation’s Nick Viall said he always enjoyed his time and conversations with Arlis.

Viall described Arlis as ‘a very kind, unique, and talented person who was taken from this world far too soon.’
