Aussie TV host caught in foul-mouthed Djokovic slapdown 'Lying, sneaky, a***hole…'

Novak Djokovic split public opinion over his ongoing clash with the Australian Government over his visa application to enter the country ahead of the Australian Open. Australian TV presenters Rebecca Maddern and Mike Amor did not mince their words as they discussed their views on the situation while off-air. Footage of the exchange was widely shared on social media.

Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison said last week Djokovic had failed to provide sufficient proof to receive a medical exemption to enter Australia.

The tennis star was moved to a detention centre in Melbourne on January 6, where he remained until a court overturned the decision to cancel his visa.

However, the Federal Circuit and Family Court ruled on Monday to reinstate Djokovic’s visa as the presiding judge accepted he had contracted Covid on December 16.

Despite the decision, Serbia’s parliamentary speaker Ivica Dacic said he was concerned Djokovic could still be deported from Australia despite winning his court case.

“The Australian authorities have obviously chosen to deport him, which also includes a three-year ban on entering Australia. It defies common sense,” Dacic, who used to be Serbia’s foreign minister, said.

He told Happy TV: “The process should have ended when the court ruled on the matter.

Djokovic’s family said “truth and justice” had won following the Serbian player’s release from Australian immigration detention after winning a court challenge to remain in the country.

His brother Djordje told a press conference in Belgrade: “It has been a massive challenge for us as a family. We have done everything we can to comply with all the protocols. We are very emotional and it’s very difficult for us to defend Novak without offending anyone.

“Truth and justice have come out and I hereby want to thank Australia’s legal system and judge Kelly, who has been unbiased and neutral as he took on board all the facts since he (Djokovic) landed at Melbourne airport, including the bullying he’s been through.”
