Charlotte Crosby's tips on how to achieve your fitness goals in 2022

Charlotte Crosby, TV personality and creator of fitness app Blitz n Burn, isn’t a stranger to the world of fitness. Her journey began five years ago when she launched a fitness DVD after losing a whopping three stone. Although she never put the weight back on, years of “living out of a suitcase” saw Charlotte fall out of love with fitness. Now Charlotte has shared her lockdown fitness journey and her top tips for how you can make 2022 your healthiest year yet.

The coronavirus lockdowns seemed to put our lives on hold, but for Charlotte Crosby, they provided her with a welcome respite from her busy work schedule.

Staying at home allowed the Geordie Shore star to “get back into a routine and to fall in love with fitness again.”

She told Express.co.uk: “For the first year of lockdown I was in insane shape, I had all of this time I was eating healthy. I wasn’t living out of a suitcase, I wasn’t constantly on trains or in hotels.

“I was able to meal prep, I was going on walks – I fell in love with walking and I just found a love for [fitness] again.

For those who are new to fitness, Charlotte said: “My advice would be don’t be scared, don’t be overwhelmed by it all. It’s all about taking everything at your own pace.

“You don’t need to go and do an hour workout with a load of people who are pushing you really hard. That’s not what fitness is all about.

“Fitness is about moving more and going at your own pace and your own fitness level and building on that.

“It’s not about being amazing straight away, so just go at your own pace, take it really really slow and gradually try and get better.”

To succeed, she urges Brits to set realistic fitness goals: “Don’t try and set the bar too high. Just think very carefully about what is manageable what is attainable.”

Find a workout buddy

For Charlotte, exercising with friends and in groups “doesn’t make it a chore, it just takes away that part of what you dread about exercising.”

She recommended finding a fitness buddy to work out with – especially those who are new to fitness.

She said this will make your workouts “more fun” and you are more likely to stick to a regular fitness routine with a supportive community around you.

Switch up your workouts

Charlotte said changing up your workouts is key if you want to stick to a fitness routine, explaining: “Every day I do something different.”

She added: “Variation is key because sticking to the same thing over and over again gets boring and you get sick [of it].”

No matter what you do, Charlotte recommended moving every day.

She said: “I don’t class things as a workout anymore. I just see myself moving more, so I move every single day of the week, so there’s not a day when I’ll just lie on the settee all day and watch TV.

“Every single day I’ll be moving, so days when I haven’t done an intense workout as such I’ll always do a 45 to an hour walk and that’s still just as good exercise as anything else.”

Don’t compare yourself to others

In a social media age where influencers post heavily edited unrealistic photos of themselves, it can be all too easy to compare yourself to others.

But Charlotte urges Brits to ignore this and to focus solely on themselves.

She said: “I don’t think anyone should be comparing themselves to anybody.

“It’s so good that every single human on this earth is completely different because that’s what makes them individual. Just do you and focus on you”.

And if you are suffering from the January blues, Charlotte recommended trying a workout as it “makes you feel good, it releases endorphins, it boosts dopamine, it is like scientifically proven to make you feel happier”.

Fuel your body correctly

Charlotte said fitness is 70 percent diet and 30 percent exercise so “you’ve got to try and make sure you are getting a lot of goodness into your body”.

She recommended: “[Make sure] you are getting good proteins, healthy fats, carbs so you are able to exercise so you’ve got enough energy.”
