Singer Sinead O’Connor, 55, says she will “never forgive” the Irish state after her teenage son died aged 17. Sinead announced the tragic news on Twitter in the early hours of January 8. She wrote: “My beautiful son, Nevi’im Nesta Ali Shane O’Connor, the very light of my life, decided to end his earthly struggle today and is now with God.
“May he rest in peace and may no one follow his example. My baby. I love you so much. Please be at peace.”
Shane had been reported missing two days before his death.
Sinead said her son was “on suicide watch” at Tallaght Hospital in Dublin after trying to take his own life twice in the space of a week.
In a new series of tweets, Sinead revealed she has formally identified her son’s body.

Shane, whose parents are Sinead and musician Donal Lunny, was reported missing earlier this week.
In an appeal to find her son, Sinead hit out at the Dublin hospital where he had been “on suicide watch”.
Writing on Thursday, the day before Shane’s death was confirmed, Sinead said: “I want to know why Lynn Ward at Taillight hospital who were supposed to have HCA’s supervise my child 24/7 have managed to let him out of their grasp this morning when seven days ago he made two severe suicide attempts.
“Like, how has a seventeen year old traumatised young person WHO WAS ON SUICIDE WATCH in Tallaght Hosptial’s Lynn Ward been able to go missing?”(sic)
Police confirmed Shane’s death yesterday in a statement: “”Following the recovery of a body in the Bray area of Wicklow on Friday, 7th January 2022, a Missing Person Appeal in respect of Shane O’Connor, 17 years, has been stood down.
“An Garda Síochána would like to thank the media and public for their assistance in this matter. No further action is required and no further information is available at this time.”
