I found the ‘cutest frog’ in my Whole Foods salad — now he’s my pet Tony

An Oklahoma man was left stunned after finding a tiny tree frog living inside a boxed supermarket salad from Whole Foods.

Simon Curtis, who hails from Tulsa, discovered the adorable amphibian amongst the lettuce leaves on Dec. 20, before hopping on Twitter to share the story — which went viral this week.

“I found the cutest little frog in the bottom of my romaine lettuce tonight,” Curtis, 35, revealed in the Twitter thread that’s racked up more than 70,000 likes.

“It’s too cold to set him outside (27 degrees), but he’s been living in the lettuce for several days now — does anyone know what I should do so that he doesn’t die?”

The Oklahoman was inundated with responses, and was able to keep the frog alive. In a subsequent tweet he announced that he had named the animal “Tony.”

Curtis created a habitat for Tony inside a Mason jar, and collected worms for the amphibian to eat. He claimed he would only be keeping the frog for a few days, until the weather warmed up outside.

However, Curtis was clearly becoming attached to Tony, frequently posting photos and videos of amphibian, much to the delight of his followers.

The content creator even made a Christmas stocking for the frog, hanging it over the fireplace and making him part of the family.

In a twist, Curtis also revealed that he suffered from leukemia at the age of 10, and had a beloved stuffed tree frog toy to keep him company during his treatments.

On December 22, he wrote: “I’m VERY torn — do I keep Tony as a pet or release him tomorrow? (Worth noting, there is a string of abnormally warm days beginning tomorrow, which will give him ample time to get acclimated and prep for hibernation).”

Almost 60% of respondents voted for Curtis to keep the frog as a pet.

The viral tweets even attracted attention from Petco, who offered Curtis a $500 gift card to help fund a terrarium and supplies for Tony.

On New Year’s Eve, just over a week after acquiring the animal, Curtis shared video showing Tony in his plush new habitat.

“Tony is so happy,” he wrote beneath the clip. “Thank you to everyone who has followed and been touched by his story. May we all extend kindness and grace to whoever and whatever, whenever we can.”

Hilariously, Curtis also went back to Whole Foods to buy another boxed salad, but failed to find another friend inside.

“Back at Whole Foods…. checking the box this time,” he wrote.
