‘Beavis and Butt-Head’ will return for new movie — but they look older now

It’s time to stretch those necks, as animated headbangers Beavis and Butt-Head are set to return to television, says creator Mike Judge.

It’s been 10 years since the cult-favorite cartoon series signed off the air for the last time, and almost 30 years since the show first premiered in 1992.

But the chatter surrounding a return of the ’90s grunge and metal icons never ceased all the while, as Judge has stated multiple times his interest in seeing Beavis and Butt-Head “do” it all again.

His wait will soon be over, the iconoclastic animator confirmed on Tuesday. “Beavis and Butt-Head will be returning this year with a brand new movie and more on Paramount+,” Judge, 59, wrote on Twitter. “No exact date yet, but soon.”

He added: “They need some time to get back in shape.” The “King of the Hill” creator included sketches of the two, now middle-aged, cartoon characters — a wrinkled Beavis in spectacles and a half-bald portly Butt-Head.

“Beavis and Butt-Head” debuted on the defunct “Liquid Television” on MTV, in a show that followed as the profoundly idiotic teenage slackers inadvertently stir up havoc wherever they go. Episodes also featured music videos and appearances from the era’s biggest acts, including Nirvana, AC/DC, R.E.M. and even legends like the Ramones and Stevie Wonder.

Following a seven-season run ending in 1997, which included their first and only full-length feature, “Beavis and Butt-Head Do America,” in 1996, the show was revived for an eighth and final season in 2011.

In 2020, it was announced that Comedy Central — a ViacomCBS network alongside Paramount+ — had ordered two new seasons of the series, in which Beavis and Butt-Head find themselves in a “whole new Gen Z world.” However, Judge’s tweet on Tuesday is the first fans are hearing of another movie.
