A gambler has won £2.2million on a slot machine in a French casino. 

The frenchman in his thirties, who has not been identified, made a dream start to 2022 bagging the sum after playing a two-euro coin. 

The man from Aisne, described as an ‘occasional player’ by the operator of the Saint-Amand-les-Eaux casino in northern France, hit the jackpot while playing on Sunday night.

A so-called Megapot of prize money is available on 175 slot machines linked up in 38 French casinos run by the Partouche group, with 31 people winning more than a million euros each in the last 10 years.

The last big win was more than £1.75million at the Lyon Le Vert Casino in September 2020. 

The £2.2million jackpot was a record for the Saint-Amand-les-Eaux casino across all of the house’s games since it was established in 1973. 

The casino announced the news on Facebook. ‘It’s madness! The #Megapot fell this evening at Pasino de Saint-Amand on machine 297!

‘Yes, 2022 promises to be truly incredible at Pasino!’

A day earlier a woman won £167,000 after she played 67p in a slot machine at the Barriere casino in Saint-Malo.  

Gambling is tightly regulated in France because of the dangers of addiction and financial losses.

Advertisers are also required to warn consumers about the risks and banned from targeting children.
