Australian Open boss Craig Tiley has said fans will soon find out a final decision on whether or not Djokovic, who has been training in Spain, will play in Melbourne.
“As far as the status relates to [Djokovic], I think we’ll have a much clearer picture in the coming days,” he said.
If he does not take part, it will be the first time he has missed the event since he was a fresh-faced 18-year-old in 2005.
