Katharine McPhee, 37, looks red hot in swimsuit after telling off trolls for attacking husband David

Katharine McPhee, 37, looked simply stunning in a bold red one-shoulder swimsuit while on vacation with her 72-year-old music producer husband, David Foster, in Hawaii on Wednesday.

Her beachside outing comes after the music maven defended Foster when he was trolled on social media this week for posting a positive image of McPhee that complimented her postpartum figure.

Foster had come under fire for sharing a bikini clad image of his wife, with her six-pack abs on full display, which he captioned: ‘what baby!’. The snap came 10 months after McPhee gave birth to the couple’s first child together and the producer was swiftly slammed for his ‘antiquated’ remark on post-baby bodies.

Katharine appeared to be shaking off the controversy, however, when she took a relaxing dip in the sea during her Hawaiian holiday.

The American Idol alum had her fit figure on display in a bright swimsuit as she dove in and out of crashing waves.

Her long brunette tresses were soaked with salt water and slicked back, revealing glowing skin and a megawatt smile.

After a quick swim in the ocean, the mother of one headed back to a seaside cabana at the luxury resort where she and her music mogul husband are staying for the New Year’s holiday.

Foster reclined on a sun lounger in blue swim trunks and took some phone calls while McPhee dried off in the warm winter sun.

The pair didn’t seem to be letting their recent brouhaha on social media put a damper on their vacation.

McPhee came out swinging against online haters this week, telling them to ‘get a life’ for criticizing Foster after he complimented her post-pregnancy figure in a recent Instagram post. 

‘I’m sorry but we are not sorry,’ she captioned the post. ‘And for all of you who can’t deal with it maybe this helps. I’ve struggled with weight my whole 20s and 30. I’ve gone up and down 10 times over. 

‘Does that make you feel better? There is nothing wrong with that – most people do.’ 

The Los Angeles native admitted she ‘lost this baby weight without dieting,’ adding that she believes ‘diets are the worst and [she’s] had zero pressure from anyone’ to lose weight.

McPhee said she’s ‘found a great workout’ and let her ‘body do its thing’ to lose the baby weight, and was not worried if she put weight back on in the future.  

‘Guess what?’ she said. ‘I’ll probably gain weight again at some point too. Who cares?’

McPhee said that ‘people freaking out about what my husband captioned’ should ‘seriously get a life’ and ‘stop being so offended by what people post who have zero impact on your life and move on.

‘Maybe you should have more of an attitude of like, let’s say… ‘oh that’s nice he thinks his wife is hot.’ I cannot with this overly sensitive society right now.’ 

The original post, shared by Foster, featured a snap of McPhee sitting cross legged in a skimpy black bikini with her six-pack abs on display. David captioned the post ‘what baby!’ which is what ultimately drew critics to call him out. 

Negative comments to the original post included one which read: ‘Uncomfortable antiquated compliments’ on aisle 1.’

While a second added: ‘Yeah, let’s perpetuate the unhealthy narrative that women need to be back to or smaller than their pre-pregnancy size postpartum.’

Foster’s daughter Erin also wrote: ‘If I can accept my step mom looking like this, you certainly should be able to. The photo wasn’t altered or filtered and she’s had no surgery.’

She added: ‘You can’t shame someone for feeling cute after a baby whether she’s sharing stretch marks or a six pack. Let her live.’

Sister Sara also jumped into the comments on behalf of her stepmom writing: ‘You have been working your a** off at the gym. Lets complain about women and husbands who post 3 week postpartum pics with their full body lipo, filters, and altering apps that make us all feel sh***y’ 

Katharine and David welcomed their child Rennie on February 22, 2021. 

She is their first child as a couple, with David already a parent to five daughters – Allison, 50, Amy, 47, Sara, 40, Erin, 38, and Jordan, 34 – from previous relationships.  

In May McPhee said she has found breastfeeding her son ‘easy’ so far. The actress has said she’s been ‘really lucky’ when it comes to getting Rennie to feed, because she knows breastfeeding can be ‘really hard’ for some women.

Speaking to the ‘PEOPLE Every Day’ podcast, she said: ‘There’s so many different types of experiences that women have. [For] some women, it’s really, really hard for them in the beginning, and then it gets easier. And for me, it’s not been that. I’ve just been really lucky. Breastfeeding has been easy for me.’

Katharine said she’s keen to speak about her positive experiences because she believes some women are ‘terrified to have a kid’ because of the horror stories they’ve heard from others.
