Manchester United overcame Burnley to put their hapless draw at Newcastle behind them and secure a much-needed three points.
Luke Shaw and Scott McTominay were the standout performers for Ralf Rangnick’s side at Old Trafford, while Ben Mee had an evening to forget.
Here, Sportsmail runs the rule over both sides with player ratings from the 3-1 United victory.
Scott McTominay was outstanding and no Manchester United player performed better
Manchester United:
David de Gea – 6
Hardly had anything to do all night and there was a lack of cutting edge from Burnley to threaten him. He might feel he could have done better with Lennon’s goal.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka – 6.5
The Englishman was solid enough and did come up with one memorable block in a dangerous situation with the scores level.
Eric Bailly – 6
Disappears to the Africa Cup of Nations now fretting about giving the ball away for Lennon’s goal but was otherwise untroubled.
Manchester United will be without Eric Bailly for a while now he is heading to AFCON
Harry Maguire – 5.5
Will not want to watch the goal back as he looked slow in reverse, backing off with Lennon on the charge.
Luke Shaw – 7.5
Back to his best, the England full-back will be delighted to have shown Rangnick a performance close to his top level upon a return to the side.
Luke Shaw delivered an outstanding performance and offered a threat going forward
Scott McTominay – 8
Scored the opener and the goal was the icing on the cake of an impressive all-round display. It was a superb finish and only a top save from Wayne Hennessey stopped him adding another to the tally.
Nemanja Matic – 6.5
You know what you’re going to get with Matic and his defensive work allowed more progression from McTominay, who thrived, although the Serbian is another who could have done more to stop the Lennon goal.
Jadon Sancho – 7
At times the former Borussia Dortmund man could have been more economical with possession but looked a threat when he was assertive and forced the own goal.
Mason Greenwood – 7
The second half was an improvement after a largely anonymous first 45 minutes. He forced the Burnley keeper into a save and grew into the game.
Mason Greenwood improved on his showing against Newcastle and was better after the break
Edinson Cavani – 6.5
Would have been hoping to back up his strike against Newcastle but did not benefit from clear chances, some of which was of his own making as he went searching for possession.
Cristiano Ronaldo – 6.5
The stats will say an assist and a goal but in truth the frontman will be frustrated he did not come away with more. Missing the one-on-one was an uncharacteristic moment for the Portuguese.
Burnley:
Wayne Hennessey – 6.5
Was not helped out by his defenders and needed far more protection to have any sniff of a clean sheet. Did just about as well as he could in the circumstances.
Matt Lowton – 6
Will have been pleased with his night’s work in general against the threat of Jadon Sancho.
James Tarkowski – 5.5
The first half was unusually poor from the centre-back, who seemed to struggle with the pace of the game. Shaw caused him problems and it was a rare sub-par showing.
Ben Mee – 5
He could have been more aggressive and his tentative approach in the first half in particular was summed up by the meek deflection Sancho’s shot took off him for the own goal.
Ben Mee will feel he could have been more positive in defence in the first half
Charlie Taylor – 6
Was solid in the face of Greenwood, who was denied real scoring chances for the most part.
Jóhann Berg Guðmundsson – 6.5
Worked hard in midfield but struggled to provide any cutting edge when the Clarets needed it in attack.
Jack Cork – 6
Only managed to touch the ball 13 times in the first half with United well on top. Improved in the second until he was replaced by Dale Stephens.
Jack Cork struggled to gain a foothold in midfield, just as his side did in the game
Ashley Westwood – 6
Showed off his range of passing at times but in general struggled to make an impression on proceedings.
Dwight McNeil – 5.5
Was brave to call for the ball regularly but hardly did anything with it. Dyche will be unhappy with his work, or lack of it, going towards his own goal.
Aaron Lennon – 7
Was a troublesome presence for the United defenders and took his goal superbly. It was a surprise to see the winger starting but he defied expectations to put on a display of real quality at Old Trafford in a losing cause.
Chris Wood – 6.5
Toiled away without much to show for his efforts. Made such Maguire and Bailly had their hands full but never really offered a cutting edge.
Aaron Lennon was the shining light for Burnley and pulled the goal back for them
