Man Utd boss Ralf Rangnick without Bruno Fernandes and two other stars for Burnley clash

Ralf Rangnick will be without at least three first-team stars when his Manchester United side host Burnley on Thursday night. The Red Devils interim boss appears to have a mountainous task on his hands to turn the club’s season around following the 1-1 draw at Newcastle – one of United’s poorest displays of the campaign.

For that reason, Rangnick is expected to shake up his starting XI and offer several players the chance to make a point.

There were a number of questionable performances of Tyneside from the likes of Marcus Rashford, Cristiano Ronaldo and Harry Maguire.

But with United desperate to put some points on the board, Rangnick cannot afford to disrupt the morale within his camp.

Reports already claim there is unrest over training times at Carrington amid fears of cliques within the dressing room.

Meanwhile, Lindelof remains sidelined after testing positive for COVID-19.

The Swede was forced off with chest pains in the 1-0 win at Norwich but his absence is due to his period of isolation.

Furthermore, Fernandes is set to serve a one-match suspension after picking up his fifth yellow card of the season at Newcastle.

The Portuguese midfielder has not been up to scratch in recent matches and may benefit from a game out of the side.

It could see Donny van de Beek handed another opportunity to shine.

The Dutchman has been starved of opportunities but did enjoy a brief revival during Michael Carrick’s short reign as caretaker manager.

Edinson Cavani looks set to return to the starting lineup after he found the net from the bench against Newcastle.

El Matador has been sorely missed since he picked up an Achilles’ problem in the 3-0 win at Tottenham.

Jadon Sancho will also be pushing for a start given the performances of Mason Greenwood and Rashford.
