'I was like, s**t!' Olivia Colman's co-star Dakota Johnson admits worries over meeting her

32-year-old Dakota Johnson was to play young mother Nina in the movie The Lost Daughter, while Olivia Colman would act as a holiday-maker who encounters her in a sun-drenched Italian coastal town and starts to watch her intently. The film would see Olivia, in her role as Leda, finding and returning Nina’s daughter when she goes missing, but then – in a surprising twist – stealing her doll instead.

“I was just like, ‘sh*t, I wonder what she’s going to be like,'” Dakota confessed of her concerns about meeting the Oscar-winning actress for the first time.

Due to the intensity of the on-screen role, it might not be surprising to learn that she was daunted – but any fears she might have had about Olivia’s real life persona proved to be unfounded.

“We loved each other,” Dakota explained in an interview with Elle magazine, “and she’s a wild time.

“She’s so maternal and embracing and always wants to hang out and drink wine and talk.”

Meanwhile, her boyfriend, Coldplay’s Chris Martin, is 12 years her senior, placing him at the same age as director Maggie Gyllenhaal.

“Most of the partying takes place inside of my house,” she teased of their relationship.

“We’ve been together for quite a while, and we go out sometimes, but we both work so much that it’s nice to be at home and be cosy and private.”

While she might not always be active on the showbiz scene now that she’s in a loved-up relationship, viewers can still catch her in The Lost Daughter, which is available on Netflix at the end of the month.

Dakota admitted her own mother has already watched her latest movie three times.

“I’m like… what’s that about?” she recalled incredulously.

“And maybe there’s a part of me that’s like: ‘If you keep watching this movie, I’m going to be worried,'” she joked.

“But I think it’s coming from being proud of me. I also think it’s something that she hasn’t seen on screen before, and she’s like, ‘Holy sh*t. You can say ‘I f*cking hate being a mother today?'”

The Lost Daughter is out on Netflix on December 31st.

The February issue of ELLE UK is on sale from 06 January.
