Boxing Day is the perfect day to freshen up your home after a hearty Christmas meal. Cooking turkey, vegetables and roast potatoes can leave your kitchens and adjoining areas smelling a stale and oily. Fans of cleaning sensation Mrs Hinch have shared their hacks for removing unpleasant cooking smells from your home on social media groups.
Mrs Hinch, whose real name is Sophie Hinchliffe, garnered popularity after sharing her cleaning tips on social media and TV.
The cleaning enthusiast now has over 4.1 million followers on Instagram and has authored several books.
On one of the Mrs Hinch fan groups, a Facebook user called Marie Young asked how to remove cooked food smells from her kitchen.
She asked: “How do I get the smell of cooked food out the house?

Yvonne Connolly wrote: “Cut lemons around the kitchen.”
Tracie Parsons Bowering said: “Do you have a cooker fan? Do your filters need blitzing?
“Use lemon in the sink, microwave etc and it will neutralise and disinfect. Smells lovely and fresh.”
Tracey Fortune said: “Boil a pan of water with lemon.”
Marie Blundell commented: “My extractor has ducted out filters.
“Changed monthly but it’s my mesh cover that holds the smell. Now I simmer a lemon while cooking.”
You can buy a pack of four lemons from ASDA for just 54p which works out at 13.5p per lemon.
Ocado sell a pack of two lemons for 65p while Sainsbury’s sells a pack of five for £1.50.
Other suggestions from Mrs Hinch fans included opening windows, using essential oils and vinegar.
Mary Hodge said: “Cut onions in half, leave overnight if it doesn’t work, repeat.”
Julie Scarlet Smith wrote: “Put a little dish on the counter with white vinegar in overnight gets rid of and smells.
“Was sceptical when I first tried after cooking fish but wouldn’t use anything else now. Really does work.”
Dee Gee commented: “Windows open and close the door between the kitchen and the house when cooking. It’s the only way it works for me.”
Donna Beveridge said: “Baking soda in a jar with holes in lid, absorbs bad odours.
“Or try essential oil diffuser – it works for me.
“I use lemon or a blend – five drops of lavender,
two drops of peppermint, two drops of rosemary and one drop of lemon.”
