Outlander season 6: Claire Fraser undergoes huge change 'New way to cope'

The highly anticipated next episodes will finally start on Starz and Amazon Prime Video in March next year. Ahead of the anticipated premiere, Outlander’s own Claire Fraser, Irish actress Caitriona Balfe, has shared what’s to come for Fraser’s Ridge after the shocking events of season five.

Claire is still recovering from a horrific attack from Lionel Brown (played by Ned Dennehy) and his thugs at the end of the last season.

Meanwhile, Brianna (Sophie Skelton) will need her mother’s support after suffering a similar assault from the devious pirate Stephen Bonnet (Ed Speleers).

Their strength and determination will have to carry them forward in the sixth season of Outlander, as their new home will soon have to face the consequences of the American Revolution.

“The events of the end of season five have really destabilised Claire in a way that we’ve never seen before,” Caitriona explained.

Time-travelling heroine Claire and husband Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan) were thankfully reunited with Bree and her husband Roger (Richard Rankin) after they failed to return to the 1960s.

Now the whole family is together once more, there in the best possible place to face down the challenges coming their way.

Even so, the Revolutionary War is a world away from Claire’s previous experience as a nurse in WWII.

Speaking to Elle in a recent interview, Caitriona recounted: “I think Claire has always been able to compartmentalise things and move on, with that very 1940s can-do attitude.

The actress revealed fans will get to see even more layers of Claire being unpacked in the episodes to come.

“So it’s really lovely to actually finally unpick her in a way, and find her core vulnerabilities,” Caitriona continued.

“I think it’s the only way she can properly heal, because she has to find a new way of coping. She has to find a new way through.”

‘Doughtlander’ will be coming to an end soon, though some fans were disappointed to learn Outlander’s next season will be formed of just eight episodes this time round.

Thankfully, Starz has wasted no time in ordering an extended seventh instalment to make up for it, and there will still be plenty of sweeping historical drama to enjoy next March.

Caitriona assured: “There’s really great stuff for Claire this season.

“We’ve got some great directors back, and I think we’re playing around again with the style of the show, so that’s really exciting.”

Next appearing in the major awards contender Belfast, Caitriona took on an arduous task by filming the entirety of season six whilst she was pregnant with her first task.

Her efforts have paid off, however, and Outlander’s long-awaited next outing is shaping up to be its best yet in spite of its reduced length.

Outlander season six premieres Sunday, March 6 on Starz and STARZPLAY.
