Golden Globe nominations SNUBS: Meryl Streep was left off the list for Don't Look Up

The Golden Globe nominations were announced by Snoop Dogg early on Monday morning at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California.

And there were several titles that were expected to make the list that did (like Ted Lasso and West Side Story) in what has been labeled a very ‘diverse’ list, but there were also several that actors and films that were passed over, some shocking.

Meryl Streep has been nominated for almost 30 Golden Globe awards throughout her career. But she was not recognized for her role as the President Of The United States Janie Orlean in the farce Don’t Look Up.

However, her co-stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence were both nominated.

Don’t Look Up also got nods for Best Screenplay by Adam McKay, and Best Motion Picture Musical Or Comedy.

Jennifer Aniston was singled out for her work in The Morning Show, as were Billy Crudup and Mark Duplass, but co-stars Reese Witherspoon and Julianne Margulies were both off the list.

The show also made the Best Television Series, Drama category.

Ansel Elgort was not given a nod for his work as the lead Tony in West Side Story. And Rita Moreno was not given a shout out for her role as Doc’s widow Valentina.

But their co-stars Rachel Zegler and Ariana DeBose made the list, as did director Steven Spielberg.

The remake from the 1961 original starring Natalie Wood also landed in the Best Most Picture, Musical or Comedy category.

Gucci girl: Though Lady Gaga was nominated for her starring role in The House Of Gucci, that was the one and only nod the film received. Her co-stars Adam Driver, Al Pacino and Jared Leto were all left off the list, and the film did not land in the Best Picture category

Jennifer Hudson was overlooked for her acting role as Aretha Franklin in Respect though she did get a nod for her song Here I Am (Singing My Way Home) which she worked on with Carole King and Jamie Hartman.

Selena Gomez was not nominated for her role in Only Murders In The Building though her costars Martin Short and Steve Martin were.

And the series landed in the Best TV Series, Musical Or Comedy category.

Winners will be announced on Sunday, January 9, though an exact format has yet to be announced.

Movie dramas ‘The Power of the Dog’ and ‘Belfast’ led nominations on Monday for the annual Golden Globe awards on Monday in a year clouded by controversy and a scaled-down ceremony.

‘Belfast’ set in 1970s Northern Ireland, and director Jane Campion’s western ‘The Power of the Dog’ got 7 nods each.

They were followed by global-warming satire ‘Don’t Look Up’; ‘King Richard,’ about the father of tennis champions Venus and Serena Williams; director Steven Spielberg’s new version of the musical ‘West Side’ Story’ and coming-of-age tale ‘Licorice Pizza’ with 4 each.

Netflix movies had a leading 17 nods.

The press association, often ridiculed, even by its own hosts, this year went from punchline to pariah.

After a Los Angeles Times’ expose detailed some of the HFPA´s unethical behavior and revealed that its 87 voting members didn’t include one black journalist, studios said they would boycott the Globes and more than 100 PR films said their clients wouldn’t participate until the HFPA swiftly implemented ‘profound and lasting change.’

Tom Cruise even returned his three Globes to the group’s headquarters.

But after nine months of reform, reorganization and many pledges to do better, the HFPA is doing what it always has this time of year: Gathering reporters in the early morning at the Beverly Hilton to announce its film and television nominations.

The announcement was streamed on the Globes’ website at 9 a.m. EST.

Critics say the Globes aren’t yet ready to return to the spotlight.

Most of the film industry has this awards season kept the HFPA at arms length, or ignored it entirely. The majority of studios, public relations firms and A-list talent haven´t cooperated with the group, which this year has done away with its usual requirement for nominees to be submitted.

On Monday morning, those nominated may not be celebrating. Some may even say, ‘No thank you.’

But the Globes, even though NBC won’t be airing its annual show, have declined to sit out the season entirely.

The press association believes it has made the necessary reforms. ‘HFPA 2.0,’ recently elected president Helen Hoehne said.

Since being engulfed by backlash earlier this year, the group has added a chief diversity officer; overhauled its board; inducted 21 new members, including six Black journalists; brought in the NAACP on a five-year partnership; and updated its code of conduct.

Much of the Globes´ power has always resided in its lively telecast, regularly one of the most-watched non-sports broadcasts of the year – though ratings for it, like all award shows, have fallen sharply in recent years. The Globes also normally serve as a useful promotional tool for many of the awards-hopefuls hitting theaters in December.

NBC, the Globes´ longtime telecaster, in May said it won´t air the 2022 Globes because ‘change of this magnitude takes time and work.’

The Globes have nevertheless set a date of January 9 to name winners. The HFPA hasn’t shared any details about what kind of ceremony that would be.
