Brenton West age: How old is The Repair Shop's Brenton West?

The Repair Shop returns to BBC One tonight and the experts are back to help restore some beloved treasures. Different experts appear on the show each week, one of which is silversmith, Brenton West. Express.co.uk has all you need to know about how old the craftsman is.

How old is The Repair Shop’s Brenton West?

Brenton West has said his love for his work derived from being arty at school, and he enjoyed his metalwork classes.

He went on to do a degree in silversmithing at the Medway College of Design, where he learned plenty of new skills.

More than 40 years later and he still says silversmithing is his most enduring skill.

He came to appear on The Repair Shop after fixing a wooden camera for the producers, and before he knew it, he was regularly fixing things.

Brenton was born in 1962 and he is around 58 years old.

The expert has faced a lot of challenges over the years but he was able to name one stand-out repair.

He said: “Because I have done so many, I guess it is the people that I remember and their reactions.

“The ‘swagger stick’ repair was the most challenging. It was in and out in one day and the whole time that I was doing the job, I wasn’t sure that it was possible.

“It was a high-pressure situation. The reaction of the owner made it all worthwhile, showing the simplest (apparently) of repairs can mean so much.”

One of his dreams would be to repair a known silversmith’s piece.

His next venture will be appearing on Celebrity Mastermind this Christmas.

Opening up about the history of his trade, he said on his website: “I have been making and fixing as long as I can remember.

“As a youngster I was awarded a Diploma in silversmithing and allied crafts from Medway College of Design.

“These skills have enabled me to make such diverse items as wedding bands to silver items to bizarrely, wings and body parts for historic Formula 1 and classic cars.

“I have a degree in photography, specialising in 19th and early 20th century image making and equipment.”

He has repaired more than 100 items on The Repair Shop and worked alongside experts such as Dominic Chinea and Steven Fletcher.

The other experts include:

Suzie Fletcher, leather worker

Will Kirk, carpenter

Amanda Middleditch and Julie Tatchell, toy restorers

Kirsten Ramsay, ceramics conservator

Lucia Scalisi, painting conservator

The Repair Shop airs on Wednesdays on BBC One.
