Halle then recalled winning the Academy Award for Best Actress in 2002 for her performance in Monster’s Ball.
She is the only black woman to date to have won the Oscar in that category.
She said: “I feel heartbroken, that nobody stands next to me but we should not covet awards. Awards do not define our worth, awards do not define our talent.
“And if nobody ever stands f***ing beside me it doesn’t mean that we are not worthy and that we are not excellent.
“I hope soon that somebody stands next to me, but if not, you are doing excellent, beautiful work and you are a change in the game to so many little black girls that are looking to you and aspiring to be you.”
