Christopher Biggins rants 'ridiculous' cancel culture as pantomime tradition at risk

Christopher Biggins, 72, has said that “panto dames” in pantomimes will soon be a thing of the past, due to cancel culture. The star said that political correctness would wipe out what was left of the tradition of male actors in drag.

He told the Daily Star that soon, only women will be allowed to portray the roles, destroying the tradition.

He said: “The day will come when they’ll say a dame, which is essentially a male character in women’s clothing, will have to be played by a woman.”

This rant comes after campaigners have branded panto dames as “sexist” and “transphobic.”

He added: “The whole thing is ridiculous.”

DC comics made the decision to make Superman’s son Jon Kent bisexual.

In a Good Morning Britain interview with Richard Madeley and Susanna Reid, Christopher said he was outraged that the writers were changing a character that “we all know and love.”

The actor then praised John Whaite and Johannes Radebe’s same-sex partnership on Strictly Come Dancing, calling them “fantastic” and “wonderful”.

He said: “If you want to do something like this, do something original.

“Don’t take characters that already exist and make them into something that they’re not.”

He said he thought that DC Comics were “pandering to the system” by going ahead with the decision.

Playing devil’s advocate, Richard said: “I think if you had stuck with Clark Kent as Superman and you had made him bisexual then I think you’d probably have a point.

“You’d say ‘Why? That doesn’t make any sense. There’s nothing in his backstory’…”

Susanna supported him, saying that the character represents the “next generation”.
