'Who?' Rod Stewart says he and Elton John 'don't keep in touch' as he addresses feud

Sir Rod Stewart, 76, opened up about his friendship with Sir Elton John, 74, admitting the pair “no longer keep in touch” having been best buds for around 50 years. With their “frenemy” status very well-known as the two often made playful comments about each other, they now both lead separate and very busy lives.

In a recent chat on BBC Sounds podcast Headliners, Rod featured on the show to talk about his brand-new album The Tears of Hercules, featuring all new material.

He is among a number of influential artists who have released albums before Christmas, and revealed he only wants his to reach the number one spot for the eight time.

“I don’t care about how many copies it sells, I just like that number one,” he grinned.

“People remember number ones.”

The chat moved on to Sir Elton, but Rod immediately interrupted the host pretending not to know who he meant.

“Who?” he asked cluelessly before cackling: “My old mucker!”

He went on to speak about their relationship now, following their falling out in 2018, explaining they don’t see each other anymore and lead separate lives.

“We don’t even keep in touch anymore,” he shrugged.

He added: “I don’t think this is a big deal, it stinks of selling tickets.”

Rod has since told The Harry Redknapp Show podcast that their friendship is back on track after he apologised for his remarks.

He said: “I say to my kids: ‘A man apologises, go and apologise to your mother.’

“We’ve just made up as friends again, me and Elton.

“We’ve always been fierce enemies, as you know, through the years, but it’s always been at a playful level.

“But we had the worst row, like a married couple. It went on forever.”

Rod also admitted to being “a bit spiteful” in the 2018 interview, adding: “I regret it, I really do regret it.

“So we’re mates again now. I do love him.”

Rod first revealed that he and Elton had fallen out over his comments in November 2018, saying they were “not talking at the moment”.
