Priti Patel holds migrant crisis talks with Dutch after France kicks her out of meeting

The Home Secretary met today with Dutch migration minister Ankie Broekers-Knol. The Home Office official statement said: “They agreed that the tragic incidents of last week demonstrate the need for European partners to work together. It was clear that shared problems needed shared solutions.

“The Home Secretary then expressed that it was unfortunate that she wouldn’t be present at today’s meeting of interior ministers in Calais to discuss this issue.

“The Home Secretary and minister for migration discussed ideas for enhanced bilateral and EU co-operation.

“This includes the need to tackle the criminal gangs that are orchestrating these deadly journeys through shared intelligence and joint law enforcement initiatives.

“Both agreed that returns agreements are essential for breaking the criminal business model.”

The news comes after claims the Prime Minister has lost faith in the Home Secretary as a Cabinet civil war rages over the Channel asylum seeker crisis.

Government sources told The Sun that the Home Secretary is having to fight a “lone battle” as Mr Johnson is said to have now lost patience with her.

The crisis talks are being held to address the tragedy when 27 people died attempting to cross the Channel to get to the UK.

The Prime Minister has now been advised that he must take action with MPs fearing the migrant crisis could cost him the next election.
