Kate Middleton emulates Princess Diana's iconic style with subtle choices

Kate Middleton is a fashion icon in her own right. In fact, social media and the pages of glossy magazines are constantly littered with the Duchess of Cambridge’s awe-inspiring looks. However, she does take some style inspiration from the fashionable Princess Diana.

36 years prior to Kate, in 1985, the late princess donned an equally regal, silver floor length gown.

Both looked like dashing bond girls in their fitted gowns, featuring a v-neck and prominent shoulder features.

Many believe that Kate was directly emulating Diana, who would have been her mother-in-law.

“Kate admired Diana’s taste in fashion before William came into her life,” a source revealed to US magazine.

DON’T MISS

“During her school days she’d tell friends that Diana was her style icon.”

This was not the first time Kate nodded to Diana.

On just one of many occasions, Kate looked uncannily similar to the princess.

In June 1990, the Princess of Wales stunned in a shocking pink coat.

Kate could be seen in an almost matching ensemble in March 2015.

She even based her accessories on Diana, wearing short black heels and a black clutch purse.

The only difference was that Diana paired her jacket with a skirt, while Kate rocked a one-piece on this occasion.

Most recently, on Remembrance Day, Kate channelled Diana with a wide-brimmed black hat.

In 1992, Diana wore a similarly oversized black hat to the same occasion.

Amanda Wakeley, the woman who designed Diana’s power suits, said: “I think if you’re heading for a tricky moment, slipping into something that feels gorgeous is very reassuring.”

She added that Diana sent messages “very powerfully” through her clothes.

It seems that as Kate steps up and takes on more royal responsibilities as the future queen, she is following in Diana’s fashion footsteps.
