Cleaning: Mrs Hinch fan shares ‘best’ way to ‘banish’ cooking smells from microwave

Microwave smells are often caused by food residue that is not cleared up after cooking. While it can be hard to get rid of cooking smells completely, there are ways which can help reduce them. Posting on the Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips Facebook page, one woman asked for some help when it came to getting rid of cooking smells

She commented: “Cut a lemon in half and put it in a bowl with a small amount of water and sugar. Heat it up and then scrub the microwave with the lemon and sugar before washing it with a clean cloth, smells great.”

Alison Henly added: “Agreed, best way to banish all types of cooking smells and leave a lovely scent in the kitchen.”

Other group members recommended leaving the microwave door open to help it air out.

Alison Williams said: “Leave the door open for a bit after cooking and wipe away condensation away.”

“I agree, don’t need to overload cleaning products,” wrote Michelle Byran.

Pamela Seale said: “I use Ozmo to clean mine.”

Ozmo Fridge & Microwave Cleaner can help to sanitise the appliances as well as neutralise odours in the fridge and microwave.

It is available to buy in various different supermarkets for around £2.
