A state of emergency was declared in the Canadian western province of British Columbia after a storm cut off road and rail links. Authorities have confirmed four people have died so far with another person missing.
Approximately 14,000 people are currently under evacuation orders following record amounts of rainfall and high winds which destroyed bridges, roads and homes.
As the Canadian head of state, the Queen issued a statement in French and English in support of the country.
The statement read: “My thoughts are with the people of British Columbia as you continue to confront the recent catastrophic flooding and gradually begin the process of recovery and rebuilding.”
“I am grateful for the tireless work of the many first responders and volunteers who continue to provide comfort and support to their fellow Canadians during this difficult time.”
Her Majesty has visited Canada on more than 22 occasions including the Montreal Olympics in 1976.
The Canadian Armed Forces have been deployed to assist thousands of stranded residents who have been trapped since the storm started on Sunday.
Since Friday temporary restrictions on fuel and non-essential travel were imposed to help aid recovery work.
On Monday the Mayor of Merritt, Linda Brown, issued an evacuation warning for her city.

He told CBC News: “This is obviously an extreme event.
“I’ve been discussing with grad students … and we think this might be the worst series of landslides and flooding events since maybe 1983.”
