BTS earned the most wins with three at the 2021 American Music Awards on Sunday evening including top honor artist of the year as the most nominated singer Olivia Rodrigo earned new artist of the year.
The seven member South Korean pop boyband – who earned favorite pop group or duo and favorite pop song earlier in the night – was given the most coveted crystal pyramid trophy of the night as they beat out heavy hitters including Ariana Grande, Drake, Olivia Rodrigo, Taylor Swift, and The Weeknd.
The highly-anticipated award show took place at the Microsoft Theater in Downtown Los Angeles as the event marks one of music’s biggest nights of the year recognizing the most popular artists, singles and albums.

‘We’re so honored. Thanks for that. Whoo! I’m nervous. Yeah, I’m nervous. Yeah, baby. Four years ago, we gave this first time ever TV live performance on this stage, the AMAs. And we were, like, too excited started and nervous at the time. It’s been a long and amazing time since that.’
He went on to say that the odds were stacked against them to capture this success and that nobody believed in them other than the BTS Army.

It was a night to remember for the most famous music group in the world as earlier they earned favorite pop group or duo.
The boyband gave all credit to the BTS Army during their speech as during the acceptance speech RM said: ‘Thank you so much. And this means to us even more because we were actually a small boy band from Korea.
‘We just got united by the love for our music. And all we want to do is just spread love, good vibes, and energy through music and performance. But without you guys, army, it could have never done nothing. Thank you so much. Appreciate it. Thank you.’

As it was their night, BTS ended the event with a performance of their chart-topping hit Butter.
One thing was missing, however, as earlier in the day Megan Thee Stallion announced that she would no longer be attending nor performing at the show as she was originally slated to close it out with BTS.

The performance marked the first time New Edition has performed at the AMAs since 1997, while NKOTB last time on the show was in 2010.
Both groups have won two AMA awards throughout the course of their careers.
