Adele requests 'industry change' from Spotify after 30 album release

Fans of Adele have been waiting for the singer’s fourth album for six years. The highly-anticipated record tells of her divorce from ex-husband Simon Konecki, an event that took place over the past few years. Now the 12-track album is readily available to everyone, the singer has requested listeners absorb the music as she sees fit.

Over the weekend it became obvious that the default shuffle play button had been removed from Spotify on Adele’s 30.

Twitter account Pop Crave first pointed this out by saying: “Following the release of 30 by @Adele, Spotify removed the shuffle button as the default option when playing albums. Now, listeners have to listen to every album’s tracklist in order.”

In response, Adele explained why she is forcing her listeners to hear 30 in its regular track order.

She tweeted: “This was the only request I had in our ever changing industry! We don’t create albums with so much care and thought into our track listing for no reason.” (sic)

In it, they announced a “new premium feature … to make play the default button on all albums”.

Over the weekend Adele continued to promote her new album and come back with a special ITV show An Audience With.

During the event, the star was asked a number of questions by her star-studded audience, which included the likes of Stormzy, Harry Potter star Emma Watson and Alan Carr.

When iconic actress Emma Thompson asked a question, she wanted to know who Adele’s biggest influence was. She revealed it was her year 8 school English teacher.

Emma then ushered out the teacher to surprise the Grammy Award winner.

Adele burst into tears on stage as they embraced after decades of being apart.

The teacher, Miss McDonald, said: “You’re amazing darling, I am so proud of you.”

Adele cried: “Oh you look exactly the same!”
