Adele 'emotional' as she returns to the stage to perform for star-studded audience in TV special

Adele is back to delight her fans in the UK with a TV special where the hit singer will perform her biggest songs for a star-studded audience in London. 

Just days after releasing her fourth studio album, 30, Adele will be back on our TV screens in a one off special filmed at the London Palladium earlier this month (November 6). 

The singer, aged 33, said she felt ’emotional’ to be back on stage in the UK for the first time in four years as she performed for the likes of Emma Thompson, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Emma Watson, David Tennant, Naomi Campbell, Daniel Kaluuya and Catherine O’Hara.

Her sports agent boyfriend Rich Paul also joined the crowd of A-listers and the singer’s family and friends. 

Dawn French, Stormzy, Gareth Southgate and Samuel L Jackson are among those to watch the Someone Like You star live while pal Alan Carr gets on stage to ask questions, with Adele set to reveal who her idols are, ‘wild stories’ about relationship issues from fans and answers to burning questions like why she doesn’t perform in heels anymore.

Taking to the stage, Adele admits: ‘I got really emotional. I haven’t been home for so long and I haven’t played a show here for so long.

‘I’m very, very nervous! Course I b****y am.

‘I’m a big fan of An Audience With – it used to be the highlight of my life whenever it was on- I’m so thrilled to be doing it tonight, very very excited.’

Adele hasn’t performed a concert in the UK since her Wembley Stadium shows in June 2017. 

But, she is set to make a comeback next year, having recently announced live shows in London in 2022. 

The lucky celebrities who got to see her live once again shared their excitement ahead of filming for the show.   

‘I’m just so excited to see one of the greatest singers of all time.’ Emma Thompson said, who attended with husband Greg Wise.

Andrew Lloyd Webber added he thinks Adele is ‘one of the great originals.’ 

It’s also been reported that viewers will see Adele break down in tears after being reunited with her old teacher, who taught her at Chestnut Grove School in Balham.

An audience member told The Sun: ‘It was a really emotional moment.

‘Adele spoke movingly about how her teacher was her inspiration as a teenager. When she realised she was actually in the audience, she brought her up on stage immediately, and broke down in tears. It was the big surprise of the night.’

The singer has been celebrating this week after rave reviews flooded in at the release of her new album on Friday. 

Inspired by her divorce from ex-husband Simon Konecki, the record received a score of 89 out of 100 on Metacritic, indicating ‘universal acclaim’ from reviewers while fans took to social media in droves to praise the release and share crying memes to react to the stars powerful lyrics.   

#Adele30 became a trending topic on Twitter immediately after the album was released with fans the world over praising the record.
