‘The Great British Baking Show’s Jürgen Krauss Pens a Heartfelt Letter After Shocking Elimination

Going into this week’s Great British Baking Show, we knew the competition would be tight. Facing down for a spot in the finals were Jürgen Krauss, Giuseppe Dell’Anno, Chigs Parmar, and Crystelle Pereira, who each have at least one (if not two — or three) Star Bakers under their apron. Still, a decision had to be made, and the person eliminated — spoiler alert for folks who haven’t seen this week’s episode, “Pâtisserie Week” — was Jürgen. The German baker left the tent on good terms, however, bidding auf wiedersehen to all with a sweet letter.

The note, which was shared from the official Great British Baking Show Twitter account, was addressed to all fans of the series, thanking them for their kind words of support while he competed.

“Who wants to fly to the moon if you can be on Bake Off?” Krauss writes. “It was such a fantastic ride! I have made 11 new friends and met the most amazing crew!”

Sounds like something sweet Paddington would say! Over the course of his time on GBBS, Krauss proved he wasn’t all that different from the kindhearted bear, becoming a fan-favorite after humbly winning three Star Bakers.

“Preparing all the recipes gave me confidence to experiment with flavours in sweet baking, to an extent I’ve never done before,” Krauss, who normally bakes bread, wrote. “A huge thank you to all of you for all the kindness and warmth in your response and support!”

Krauss was ranked near the top for most-likely to win GBBS, after earning his three Star Bakers and soaring to the top of the competition in nearly every episode. In Episode 9, however, he started off rocky, becoming the only baker to not receive a handshake from judge Paul Hollywood in the signature challenge. Ultimately, after a disappointing showstopper performance, the judges chose to send him home. The other three bakers will compete in the finals next week to be crowned Season 9’s victor.

The Great British Baking Show‘s Season 9 finale will air next Friday on Netflix.
