‘She wants to end it’ Strictly's Ore Oduba opens up on fearing his marriage could collapse

Ore Oduba, 36, has shared the impact that parenting during lockdown had on his relationship with wife-of-six-years Portia. The West End star said his marriage “completely changed” when they had children. The couple share Roman, three, and five-week-old Genie.

Speaking on Loose Women today, Ore said: “We hadn’t argued at all for seven years. We had kids, for the six months, I genuinely thought most days she was going to divorce me.

“We were bickering to the point, it was everything, it could have been absolutely anything.

“I wasn’t sure she liked me. There was such a massive change in our world – we hadn’t ever had to deal with before, so it was like, ‘Obviously she wants to end it,’” he recalled.

Referring to lockdown, Ore added: “We maybe actually love each other more after going through that period.”

Ore, who won Strictly in 2016, is married to TV researcher Portia Oduba, and the couple have two adorable children together.

Speaking on Dancing On Ice semi-finalist Ben Hanlin’s new podcast, Ben Behaving Dadly, Ore said: “We came through a really difficult patch, I guess, essentially.

“When after Roman was firstborn, the first few months were really hard.

“Because… Portia and I, we never argued about anything. We were that couple.

“And the tip is this essentially, it is with tongue in cheek, to always remember that the most important people, if you have a co-parent in the house, the most important people are the two of you.

“Because without that connection and synchronicity, then that’s how things break down.”

The couple, who have been together for nearly 10 years, welcomed their son Roman, now three, in 2018.

Last year, the sports journalist – who won Strictly in 2016 – played down the show’s so-called curse, and revealed his wife Portia was very supportive of his stint on the programme.
