Manchester City: Ferran Torres primed to begin individual sessions in huge boost for Pep Guardiola

Ferran Torres is primed to begin individual training sessions following his foot fracture injury in boost for Pep Guardiola with Manchester City hopeful the Spaniard can return to action next month

  • Ferran Torres is ready to step up his rehabilitation from his foot fracture
  • The Man City striker suffered the injury while playing for Spain back in October
  • Torres, 21, has jetted back into Manchester to begin individual training sessions
  • A return before January would come as a big boost for manager Pep Guardiola

Ferran Torres is ready to step up his rehabilitation from injury, with the Manchester City striker hoping for a return to action before New Year.

The 21-year-old suffered a foot fracture while on international duty with Spain in October, with Pep Guardiola predicting he would miss three months.

Sportsmail understands Torres flew back into Manchester on Tuesday after starting his recovery abroad and is primed to begin individual sessions with City’s medical department.

It is expected that Torres is another month away from action but any involvement in Guardiola’s squad before January would be ahead of schedule.

The news acts as a boost for City, who now count him as their only recognised striker after the winger was converted to a more central role last season.

Gabriel Jesus views his future on the right wing, excelling in that area so far this campaign, with Phil Foden, Kevin De Bruyne and Raheem Sterling used as false nines.

Record goalscorer Sergio Aguero left the Etihad Stadium in the summer and City were thwarted in signing a replacement after turning their attention towards Tottenham’s Harry Kane after Erling Haaland.

Torres has impressed when given opportunities at City, scoring 16 goals in 32 starts since signing from Valencia for almost £21million.

Guardiola has consistently refuted the idea that his team cannot challenge on all fronts this term without a frontline striker but being able to call on Torres would offer a different dimension.

City have also been missing teenage striker Liam Delap – who was expected to feature more regularly – with ankle and hip problems and he remains sidelined.
