'EU has become a fortress!' Europhile Alibhai-Brown slams Brussels' migrant treatment

Self-proclaimed Europhile Yasmin Alibhai-Brown has called the European Union out for being a “fortress” over the treatment of migrants in recent months. Ms Alibhai-Brown urged  France and the UK to work together to help migrants in need. Paris and London have been at loggerheads for months over the increasing number of migrants crossing the Channel into the UK, with the British Government accusing France of violating asylum-seeking legislation.

She went on: “The EU has become such an intolerant, and I’m very pro EU.

Let me finish – I take this so seriously, because what after what’s happened in Afghanistan or Syria.

“There are so many people who are absolutely in need. Okay.

The EU has become a fortress and what’s happening in Belarus, for example, is part of the problem.

She added: “And and France and Britain need to be working together.

“Not to keep the fortress but to help these people in need.”

Thousands of men and women and children have been attempting to cross into Poland from Belarus.

Minsk has been accused of pushing migrants, mostly from the Middle East, to the border to destabilise the EU.

DON’T MISS:

Alexander Lukashenko, Belarus’s leader, has denied these accusations.

On Tuesday, Polish forces used tear gas and water cannon to repel migrants from crossing into the country.

Poland so far has resisted attempts from migrants amassing at the border to cross into its territory and, consequently, into the EU’s free movement zone.

Polish Defence Minister Mariusz Blaszczak said: “We have to prepare for the fact that the situation on the Polish-Belarusian border will not be resolved quickly.”
