Popular supermarket provides the cheapest roast dinner – less than a tenner

There’s no escaping it: it’s getting cold. Roast dinner Sundays are officially here to stay.

But which supermarket provides the cheapest roast dinner?

This is need-to-know information in the exciting lead up to Christmas.

Cash Lady revealed that cheap and cheerful Aldi has the goods.

They compared the prices of roast dinner ingredients such as chicken, roast potatoes and carrots at nine popular supermarkets.

These included Aldi, Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Lidl, Waitrose, M&S, Asda, Morrison’s and Co-op.

Results found that a chicken roast dinner from Aldi can feed four people for less than a tenner.

At £2.07 per head, two parents and two kids can enjoy a Sunday lunch for £8.26.

A chicken roast dinner from Lidl came in second place.

A family of four can eat for £8.37.

DON’T MISS

In third place, at just over £10, Tesco shoppers can feast on a chicken roast for a mere £10.55.

Sainsbury’s, Asda and Morrisons came in fourth, fifth and sixth place respectively.

The most expensive chicken roasts were unsurprisingly found at Waitrose, M&S and Co-op.

Co-op sells the most expensive chicken roast dinner, at £18.05 for four people.

Asda is the third most inexpensive, with a beef roast dinner coming to £15.78.

Co-op, M&S and Waitrose are again the most costly, but with Waitrose as the most expensive rather than Co-op, at a huge £26.59.

Cash Lady’s Consumer Expert, Paul Wilson, said: “It’s often the little things that add up in the run up to Christmas, which can leave Brits feeling penniless by the time they have bought all of their gifts.”

He added: “Making small changes to your weekly budget, such as opting for the cheapest roast dinner on offer, can have a big impact on your finances and make the Christmas period a bit more manageable!”
