But any budding relationship between the pair took an unfortunate turn last week when Kai accidentally kicked her in the face while training for last night’s Charleston routine. The pair were both left bruised after she also mistakenly kicked him in the knee. But all the knocks proved worth it when the judges last night gave their routine 39 points and they topped the leaderboard. Head judge Shirley Ballas said she did not have a paddle high enough for their performance.
TV presenter AJ, 33, said she considered the ongoing speculation about a romance with Kai, 26, as “all a bit of fun”.
Responding to her young nephew suggesting on last week’s show that she kiss Kai, AJ said: “You know what kids are like, they love talking about knickers, weeing and kissing, so it was all very exciting for them hearing the rumours. It’s just all a bit of fun, isn’t it really?”
Speaking of their recent injuries AJ added: “The Charleston is a dangerous dance and it’s a dance I’ve always wanted to learn. I underestimated how challenging and how physically demanding the dance was.”
Last night the judges gave EastEnders actress Rose Ayling-Ellis and Giovanni Pernice 32 for their 60s samba. CBBC presenter Rhys Stephenson and Nancy Xu scored the highest quickstep so far with 34.
And Bake Off star JohnWhaite got 35 for what Shirley called a “moving” rumba with Johannes Radebe.
