Lewis Hamilton's old rivalry reignites as Rosberg vows to beat him: 'You know who'll win'

While Mr Rosberg, now a sustainability entrepreneur, stepped down from Formula One as a driver back in 2016 when he beat Sir Lewis to become world champion, Mr Rosberg has set his sights on the Extreme E title. Extreme E is an electric off-road racing series that Mr Rosberg has entered his own team into, Rosberg Xtreme Racing (RXR). With Mr Rosberg’s team currently in the lead, he will go head-to-head with Sir Lewis’ X44 in the final battle, the Jurassic X Prix in Bovington, on the south coast of England on December 19.

And, although the pair will not be going tyre-to-tyre, the former German-Finnish racing driver was quick to insist his team would beat Hamilton’s.

Mr Rosberg told Express.co.uk: “I’m leading in the championships and it’s between me and Lewis Hamilton for the title, and you know who’s going to win, right?”

The pair had a fierce rivalry when Mr Rosberg was an F1 driver, and at times the two couldn’t even look at each other before big races.

But this latest battle is different, with suitability and the environment playing an underlying role in Mr Rosberg’s inspiration to set up his own team.

Mr Roseberg told Express.co.uk: “The Extreme E cars are powered by green hydrogen, which is created on-site using solar energy and then the green hydrogen is used to create the electricity for the cars.

“Extreme E is really trying to trailblaze a zero-carbon footprint in sports.

“But not only is it being a good role model, but it also gets involved with a lot of charitable initiatives at each race and really helps the local areas with destructive effects of climate change.”

But this is not Mr Rosberg’s only green initiative.
