‘Obviously I do!’ BBC Breakfast’s Jon Kay swipes at Matt Tebbutt over fashion comments

BBC Breakfast was presented by Jon Kay and Naga Munchetty on Saturday morning. The pair chatted to TV chef Matt Tebbutt about what he had coming up for viewers on Saturday Kitchen. Jon was then taken aback when Matt made a comment about his outfit choice. However, the presenter went on to aim a swipe at the culinary star himself, after he was left confused by his response.

Naga introduced Matt onto the programme, saying: “Let’s talk to Matt Tebbutt because Saturday Kitchen takes over at 10 o’clock.

“Hey, how’s your cold? You’re looking very sprightly,” she remarked.

Matt replied: “Do I? Thank you very much. It’s getting better, but it’s still floating around I have to say. It doesn’t want to go.

“Can I just comment on Jon’s tie? I love it,” he added.

Matt was highlighting the BBC Breakfast presenter’s bright tie, which featured multicoloured stripes.

“Do you?” Jon asked, checking whether the TV chef’s comment was genuine.

Matt replied: “Yeah, it’s great I saw it, I flicked on the news at six o’clock this morning. Yeah, I do.”

“Thank you Matt,” Jon said, clearly taken aback by the rare compliment.

As the studio erupted with laughter, Naga sarcastically said: “Yeah, your cold and your appreciation of Jon’s wardrobe.

“I have noticed though that we’ve never actually appreciated your wardrobe,” she teased.

“Well, you can today,” Matt said, before giving a rundown of his own outfit choice.

Talking about his shirt, he said: “This is a collarless number, it was very popular back in the summer just gone. But, I like to get the most out of it.”

“We’re not going to comment because we’re only saying nice things on this programme,” Naga insisted.

“Oh, really? When did that change?” Matt asked, with Jon adding: “New policy!”

“Come on, tell us what’s happening,” Naga said, encouraging the chef to detail what viewers could expect from Saturday Kitchen.

BBC Breakfast airs weekdays at 6am on BBC One.
