Man Utd have three players who need dropping ahead of crunch Manchester derby

Manchester United will need to pick themselves up quickly if they are to recover from last night’s Champions League draw against Atalanta when they host Manchester City this Saturday (12.30pm). Express Sport takes a look at which players Ole Gunnar Solskjaer may axe after they scraped a point away in Italy thanks to Cristiano Ronaldo’s late strike.

Harry Maguire

Harry Maguire has not looked 100 per cent since he returned from injury and was again at fault for his team conceding.

Roy Keane tore into the skipper on Sunday for being ‘robotic’ and not showing any passion when representing the club.

The England defender was caught napping when Atalanta scored their second of the evening as he played Duvan Zapata onside.

Eric Bailly put in an impressive shift, making several vital blocks and clearances. If Raphael Varane and Victor Lindelof are fit then it could give Solskjaer a selection headache, with Maguire in the worst form of the quartet.

Paul Pogba

Paul Pogba was once again ineffective on a night United needed him to dazzle.

Fortunately for Solskjaer, the decision has already been taken out of his hands as the midfielder is banned for the visit of Pep Guardiola’s side.

Pogba’s red card after coming off the bench against Liverpool saw him handed a three-match ban.

Brazilian Fred is expected to return to the midfield to help shield the back five alongside Scott McTominay.

Marcus Rashford

Marcus Rashford only returned from injury in the reverse fixtures against Atalanta on October 20 but he then started in the 5-0 dubbing at home to Liverpool.

The England international sat out of United’s 3-0 over Tottenham and was given more minutes in his legs against Atalanta.

However, the 24-year-old provided little threat while playing centrally through the middle alongside Cristiano Ronaldo.

Solskjaer may revert back to the two which led the line expertly against Spurs by reinstalling Edinson Cavani.
