Crook follows 80-year-old man into NYC apartment, robs him in elevator

A heartless crook followed an 80-year-old man into his East Village apartment building and robbed him of $60 on Thursday afternoon, police said.

The male suspect first asked the elderly victim for a cigarette outside his building near Avenue C and East 12th at about 2:10 p.m., according to cops.

The robber then trailed the man inside and entered the elevator with him before pulling out a box cutter and snatching the cash from the victim’s pocket, police said.

The suspect fled the building and was still being sought early Friday.

Police said the victim was not injured during the robbery.
