Cringe-worthy moment Terry McAuliffe breaks his own ‘cardinal rule’ and dances onstage next to Biden in Virginia

  • McAuliffe danced on stage after a Tuesday night rally with the president
  • He waved his arms and did running moves to ‘Drive’ by Ben Rector
  • Biden and other officials opted to point and wave
  • ‘I’m the worst dancer ever, which is why I don’t dance in public,’ quipped DailyMail.com columnist Meghan McCain
  • McAuliffe is in a tight race with Glenn Youngkin in Virginia
  • Biden called Youngkin an ‘acolyte’ of Trump and asked if he was too ’embarrassed’ to campaign with the former president

Former Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe once again broke his own cardinal rule of politics – no dancing – and he is already paying the price on social media.

The candidate for governor, who was on stage with President Joe Biden, was the only dignitary who broke out in dance as speakers boomed out ‘Drive,’ by Ben Rector at an outdoor campaign rally in Arlington.

A clip of his bopping, arm-waving moves went viral Tuesday night.

‘I’m the worst dancer ever, which is why I don’t dance in public. Terry McAuliffe too should stop dancing in public,’ tweeted former DailyMail.com columnist Meghan McCain.

Former White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany wrote: ‘The Terry McAuliffe dance truly took on a life of its own tonight.’ She added a wide-eyed emoji.

McAuliffe, sporting a gray suit, blue shirt and no tie, also showed off his dad dancing as he grooved on stage with Vice President Kamala Harris to the sounds of ‘Lovely Day’ by Bill Withers – a staple of Obama rallies – on October 21.

McAuliffe did a mea culpa after his dancing got out of hand at an event with Hillary Clinton running mate Sen. Tim Kaine, himself a former Virginia governor, in 2016.

He said he apologized to his staff for breaking the ‘cardinal rule’ – ‘I danced in public,’ he told CNN afterward.

It is unclear whether McAuliffe will have much to dance about after Nov. 3. His race against Republican Glenn Youngkin is a dead-heat, in an off-year election that will be used to judge the momentum of both parties.

McEnany has kept her eye on McAuliffe’s dance moves in the past.

On October 23, she also tweeted about the former governor’s moves on stage with former President Barack Obama. At that event, also to Rector’s song, McAuliffe shifts awkwardly from side to side and shakes his wrist back and forth.

Biden, who followed the normal political guidelines of smiling and pointing to the crowd after his own fiery remarks, did his best to give a boost Tuesday night by trying to yoke Youngkin to Trump, calling the wealthy private-equity investor a Trump ‘acolyte.’

He tried to egg on Trump, asking if Youngkin was too ’embarrassed’ to campaign with the former president.
