Our Yorkshire Farm: Is Amanda Owen pursuing a career away from farming?

Our Yorkshire Farm returned earlier this month for season five where fans could catch up on what’s been happening at Ravenseat Farm over the past few months. The Channel 5 docu-series delves into the everyday running of the land and livestock, as well as the balancing of family life with Amanda and Clive Owen’s nine children. But the Yorkshire Shepherdess has been concentrating on another project as of late.

Is Amanda Owen pursuing a career away from farming?

Amanda is a first-generation farmer who turned to life as a shepherdess after working as a model.

But she turned her back on this life after finding a hill shepherd book in the library which had photographs of landscapes and animals.

She explained on the Channel 5 series: “It wasn’t glossing over the hard side, it was very real and very gritty and atmospheric but it was just the thought of working outdoors and

actually doing something, having a physical job where you were out there feeling the elements — windburn, sunburn, rained on, all the rest of it — sounded like a good idea back then.”

She became a trainee shepherdess at the age of 21 and shortly after met her future husband Clive in 1995.

There isn’t too long to wait either if you want to get your hands on the book.

Celebrating the Seasons with the Yorkshire Shepherdess will be ready to purchase from Thursday, October 28.

The book is going to be out just a couple of days after the latest instalment of Our Yorkshire Farm.

And it sounds like it is once again up to Amanda, Clive and their little helper Nancy to do the work.
