Photographer shares chilling snaps of abandoned Victorian-era morgue

One photographer delivered a shoot that was dead on.

Creepy images of a British morgue sealed off and abandoned for more than half a century have been released to the public — just in time for Halloween.

The morgue, in south Wales, opened in 1790 and operated for almost two centuries until its closure in 1960. Since then, it’s been deserted, with locals too terrified to refurbish the spooky structure.

However, a Manchester urban explorer, known as No Limits Urbex, decided to step foot inside the building to take a series of frightening photographs.

“Situated on the grounds of an active mental asylum, it wasn’t easy to gain entry to the property,” the brave photographer told Media Drum World.

“When we arrived, it was 10:30 p.m. making it very dark and intimidating but we climbed in anyway — I had to go first with our ouija board in tow.”

The morgue operated during the entirety of the Victorian period, which ran from 1837 to 1901.

During that time, many modern-day funeral traditions originated. People started laying flowers at gravesides and began wearing black to mourn.

“The morgue had seen over one thousand dead people come through its doors, so we felt it had to be haunted,” No Limits Urbex stated.

The chilling snaps show the interior of the building is ghostly gray and damp, with a dark corridor leading toward a main chamber where autopsies were performed.

Half-used chemical bottles and an opened packet of rubber gloves also appear in No Limits Urbex’s spooky images.

And while the photographer didn’t see any ghosts while moving through the morgue, he says he was transported back in time while taking the images.

“We got to glimpse into a part of history that’s filled with misery, death and disease,” he declared.
